Austin Food & Wine Festival

Austin Food and Wine Festival

Today marks the start of the inaugural Austin Food & Wine Festival.  Modeled after the legendary Aspen Food & Wine Festival, this event (hosted by Food & Wine Magazine) brings together world renown chefs, sommeliers and local Austin favorites for one weekend of up-close food experiences that are sure to blow your mind! Even though it is the first year of the festival here, Food & Wine Magazine definitely didn’t skimp on the talent – Andrew Zimmern, Gail Simmons, Marcus Samuelsson and Austin’s own Paul Qui are just a few of the great faces attending this weekend’s festival and cooking up some one-of-a-kind samples for festival goers.

What’s so great about a festival like The Austin Food & Wine Festival is that it benefits more than just hungry stomachs.  Each Food & Wine Fest donates a portion of their proceeds to a deserving cause. This weekend will benefit The Austin Food & Wine Alliance, an organization dedicated to fostering awareness and innovation in the Central Texas food & wine community through grants, educational programming and events.

Unfortunately for a girl on a budget, The Austin Food & Wine Festival is a bit out of my price range this year – tickets start at $250 and go all the way up to $850 for the weekend.  So that’s obviously out of the questions for me, but maybe with a little planning, I’ll get to go next year. Perhaps though, I’ll make a trip over to Zilker Park to simply walk around and enjoy the wonderful festival atmosphere (and if I managed to catch some of the Rock Your Taco Showdown, I certainly wouldn’t complain). If you’re interested in doing the same, check out the full schedule of events here, so you can try and catch a glimpse of your favorite chefs.

Are you going to The Austin Food & Wine Festival this weekend or have you ever been to one of Food & Wine’s festivals in another city? Let me know your favorite memories or what you’re most excited about.
